How I ended up adrift in Texas: A Nomad Interrupted continued …

Posted on 04/27/202004/27/2020 by margrad80

In the days leading up to leaving Peru, there was a lot of rain, and I found it much more interesting to play Stardew Valley on my iPad, than to go out and do things. After 140 days in Peru, I was rather excited to be changing countries again. I have determined that more than…

What Happens When an Introvert Pretends to be an Extrovert?

Posted on 02/07/2020 by margrad80

Let’s face it I really would be happy as a clam in my apartment with my nose buried in my computer all the time. It’s always hard for me to convince myself to go out and play tourist. Of course, once I do, I always enjoy it. I try to make sure that my apartments…

Ceviche! Viva Peru

Posted on 02/06/2020 by margrad80

I haven’t eaten out very much since I have been here. I find it hard to motivate myself to dine out when I will be dining alone. Soon a friend will be coming from the States, so I am using saving money for her visit as an excuse not to go out. But one day…

Visiting the Monastery

Posted on 01/17/2020 by margrad80

I hadn’t actually meant to play tourist on this day. I headed out with the intention of walking downtown and having lunch. I needed a good long walk, so I dispensed with Google maps and just started wandering down towards the river. I took way too many photos on this day so I will keep…

Truth in Visa: Peru

Posted on 01/16/202002/03/2020 by margrad80

I was noodling around on the Arequipa Expat’s Facebook page yesterday, when I read a post one woman had written about having only been given a 90 day visa, when she came into the country, though she had received 183 day visa in the past. Before coming to Peru, I researched as much as I…

New Years 2020, in Arequipa, Peru

Posted on 01/15/2020 by margrad80

I was totally unmotivated to do anything to celebrate New Years this year. I did decided that I would make up a nice meal to be noshing on when the new year came in. I gave myself, as a New Years’ present the complete series of M*A*S*H. I was surprised that all 11 seasons were…

It is just nice to walk out the front door and remember that you are not in the USA

I promised some more photos taken as I walked around town, so here they are: UPDATE! I just learnd that they are called chombas. They are used to make chicha. “But chicha, which is credited with a long list of healthy effects that almost touch the miraculous, remains an indispensable part of the menu and…

Kicking around the apartment in Arequipa, Peru.

If you are bored by minutia, stop reading now. This post is dedicated to the minutia of daily life living in different country than the one I was born and raised in. I know that it has been quite a long time since I posted anything to my blog, but I do have a good…

A photo walk in Arequipa, Peru.

Posted on 11/05/2019 by margrad80

I am making this post one with minimal words, and leaving the photos to do most of the talking. All the photos were taken on one day when I walked the 5 kilometers into town and back. Each place I have lived has something that stands out. Here in Arequipa, it is small chapels everywhere….

My Inconvenient Live

I am a retired American Merchant Mariner.  l was living a nomadic lifestyle somewhere between being a nomad and an expat, before Covid19. I moved from country to country as my visas ran out. This blog covered my travels and the random thoughts about life, technology, travel, and the Oxford comma. Now I am stuck waiting for the pandemic to pass. During this time my posts will have very little to do with traveling, and more to do with keeping myself entertained during lockdown.
