Suddenly I Feel Alive Again

Posted on 09/02/2020 by margrad80

I make no bones about it folks. I have been really out of sorts for the past 153 days, since I got stopped in Texas on my way to Mexico. The Airbnbs I have lived in during that time have been nice, and in different times I am sure I would have enjoyed myself immensely….

The Tyranny of Numbers

Posted on 08/17/2019 by margrad80

Ever since I could remember, I have had a problem with numbers. I was great in math. Actually I loved numbers, the more the merrier. I mean,I have a real problem with numbers. The sort of problem that I am sure they must have therapy for. I just can’t get enough of them. (You have…

Rooms I have known and sometimes loved

Posted on 08/14/201908/15/2019 by margrad80

Years ago I was at one of the community theaters in Baltimore waiting for the play to start. In the lobby was an exhibition of abstract paintings. The paintings represented all the hotel rooms the artist had lived in. One I liked so much that I got out my note pad and sketched it, with…

Finding a Fitting Label

Posted on 07/01/2019 by margrad80

Sometimes I get caught up in trying to label myself. I am not sure if I am trying to figure out where I belong in the order of things or if I am just trying to come up with a handy shorthand to explain myself to others. Before I retired, my labels were pretty straightforward….

No, I don’t answer my phone!

Posted on 06/21/2019 by margrad80

An interesting thing happened the other day. I got the voicemail message below. My first reaction was that it must be a scam call. I deleted it, then started to worry. It sort of bothered me because, there is always the chance that in the hubbub that my life has been for the last year,…

Texas: 7, 6 April, 2019

Posted on 04/15/201904/15/2019 by margrad80

One thing I really like about visiting my friend in Texas, is walking around her neighborhood. Her dog likes this, since I take the dog on my walks. I see some interesting things as I walk. I have been visiting my friend there for about 15 years. Over that time, more and more of the…

Walking in Paradise: March 25, 2019

Posted on 04/09/201904/08/2019 by margrad80

One of the things that bugs me … a lot, is when the media slants news coverage to make other countries seem to be bad places, based on a few instances of bad actions of some bad actors. When I headed to South America, many of my friends warned me to be safe, because the…

Thanksgiving in Cuenca; or why I am glad I am not him.

Follow An Inconvenient Life on WordPress.com A word of warning: Most the photos in this post are stock photos. When I was young, I read a lot of books about American and British expats. It gave me an image of what an expat should be like. Though, as I traveled I found that many of…

What Would Google do? Revisited

Disclaimer: It has been years since I took a critical writing class in J-school.  Forgive my professors, I alone decided to not bother with all the things they taught me and just write in the same style that I write my blog in. If you disagree with my thoughts, feel free to write your own…

My Inconvenient Live

I am a retired American Merchant Mariner.  l was living a nomadic lifestyle somewhere between being a nomad and an expat, before Covid19. I moved from country to country as my visas ran out. This blog covered my travels and the random thoughts about life, technology, travel, and the Oxford comma. Now I am stuck waiting for the pandemic to pass. During this time my posts will have very little to do with traveling, and more to do with keeping myself entertained during lockdown.
