SDV: A Blogger Escapes the Real World, Part 13

Posted on 09/30/202009/23/2020 by margrad80

Spoiler alert!
I am not even going to try to avoid spoilers. So be forewarned.

This walkthrough is for the iPad version of the game which has quite a few differences from the desktop version.

Stardew Valley is very flexible, so as you play the game your experiences will not be the same as mine. Once I am past the game basics, I will not be going step by step, but only recapping the action.

If you are looking just to get a particular question about the game answered. You can find just about every thing you need to know in the Wiki.

On the first day of summer, the remaining spring crops are withered, and the farm is cluttered with windfall wood, weeds, and stone. I know that on this day I will be busy planting my summer crops and cleaning the place up.

In this game I didn’t get as much debris as normal, so I was able to turn my attention to thinning out the trees. When I am a farming trees, any time I find a stage 4 tree near to a mature one, I cut I harvest the mature one. I also cut out trees that are too close together.
After my farm was cleaned up I concentrated on fishing for a while, and found a treasure chest, which yielded my first dinosaur egg. This is the earliest in the game that i have ever found one. I need to hang onto it until I get a coop with an incubator built.
When you open your backpack from the hamburger menu in the upper right hand corner, you will notice this icon to the right of all the taps. Clicking on it brings up the Community Center challenge pages. I opened it up to see if any of the fish I had just caught were needed.

None were, so I headed back to the farm. I realized that it was now summer and I was going to need to start saving things for my display at the yearly fair. I built a box and placed my dinosaur egg and a purple star sunfish into it. The rest of the things in my backpack went into the shipping crate or into storage.

As i went to bed, a very important Leveling Up dialogue box came up. What you chose at this point effects your game in the future. Way down the game path you can change these choices, for a hefty price. I have found that it is best to choose “Fisher” here.
I did a lot of fishing this day, and added a lot of guilder to my bank account.

On the second day of summer, I found that it was a day of very bad luck. That started panning out in the fact that I wanted to order a coop, but realized that Tuesday was Robin’s day off. I got all the way over to her shop, loaded down with the raw materials, when I saw here walking away.

I spent the rest of the day fishing, without a whole lot of luck. You can tell it is summer at the beach by the beach towels.

While I was in bed, I heard the sound of an earthquake. I knew I needed to go explore in the morning. I know now what it was, but the first time I played SDV, it took me a while to figure it out.

In the morning I received some interesting mail. Both pretty self explanatory. My recycling machine produced an iron ore during the night.

Once I finished my chores I headed over the mountain area with the raw materials I needed to have Robin to build my coop. I found that a stairway had opened up in the rock wall behind Robin’s shop. It led to the railway station and the bath house.

The area was a bit of a mess. I spent some time cleaning it up until Robin’s shop opened.
I ordered a starter coop.
I am putting it close to the house, but will likely move it later.
After I finished my business I went back to the train station and finished the cleanup.

Since I was in the mountain area already, I figured I might as well work on getting the last two fish I needed to finish off the Lake Fish Bundle. I surprised myself by catching them both pretty fast.

Sturgeon are tricky, so I was surprised to catch one with a fiberglass pole.
I was surprised to catch a rainbow trout, I thought the trout were only in the rivers.
Now I had all the fish for the lake fish bundle.
I got caught by a full backpack again. I should have stepped into the mine and cleared out my backpack before fishing.
For completing the Lake Fish bundle I received a dressed spinner. I can’t use it until I upgrade my fishing rod.
Finishing the bundle also opened up the Friendship Challenge, which is found on the bulletin board.
Leveling up gives me the crafting recipes, which can only be used on the advanced fishing rod that I don’t have.
The next morning, I found Robin hard at work on my coop.

I took care of the cat and my other chores before leaving Robin making noise on the farm. I headed over to Clint’s to upgrade my ax. Then I headed back to the beach.

Each successive upgrade is more expensive than the last.
Hay, wait, when did Willy start offering an Iridium rod? I will have to start saving for that. Fishing is much easier with the best equipment.
At bedtime I found i had another major choice to make. I have found that picking Gatherer is better because I rarely ever sell my wood.

My Inconvenient Live

I am a retired American Merchant Mariner.  l was living a nomadic lifestyle somewhere between being a nomad and an expat, before Covid19. I moved from country to country as my visas ran out. This blog covered my travels and the random thoughts about life, technology, travel, and the Oxford comma. Now I am stuck waiting for the pandemic to pass. During this time my posts will have very little to do with traveling, and more to do with keeping myself entertained during lockdown.
