SDV: A Blogger Escapes the Real World, Part Seven

Posted on 09/25/202009/22/2020 by margrad80

Spoiler alert!
I am not even going to try to avoid spoilers. So be forewarned.

This walkthrough is for the iPad version of the game which has quite a few differences from the desktop version.

Stardew Valley is very flexible, so as you play the game your experiences will not be the same as mine. Once I am past the game basics, I will not be going step by step, but only recapping the action.

If you are looking just to get a particular question about the game answered. You can find just about every thing you need to know in the Wiki.

Now I am at the point in the game were there will be more than one day covered in each post. Later there will be days not covered at all, because they will be filled with routine activities. The routine days are fun for me, but for the reader, they would be like watching someone playing solitair, while listening to soothing music.

When you turn on the TV and watch The Queen of Sauce, whatever recipe she covers goes into your game. Though you have no kitchen yet, and cannot see your recipes, but when you do get a kitchen they will all be there ready for you to use. I think it is best that you gather all the TV show recipes before you get your kitchen, so you can start cooking right a way.

With my farm chores finished, I headed to the general store to upgrade my backpack. When I got there I saw an exclamation point on the bulletin board. I found it was a Help Wanted notice. It would earn me 260g. I clicked to accept the quest and it was added to my journal. This time the journal entry showed that the quest has a time limit.

Unlike when you are buying other things from the store, this time you have to click the counter under the backpack to buy it.
Having bought the size 24 backpack my inventory has expanded to include the second line of the display, giving me 12 more spots.

Armed with both a quest and a larger backpack, I headed to the mine.

I retrieved my sword from storage and left the rod and ax behind.
As soon as I went down the ladder, I encountered my first monster; a green slime monster. This first monster didn’t drop any loot. When you go down a ladder, you want to make sure to have a weapon in your hand. The monsters are apt to attack as soon as you land. If you don’t see the ladder to the next level, you have to break rocks until you find it under one. The hidden ladders tend to be in the area of monsters. Sometimes a ladder will appear when you kill a monster.
You can see what level you are in the mine by the small number at the upper left hand side of the screen. On the second level I killed two more green slime monsters. They dropped a green algae and one slime. The geodes and copper ore came from rocks I was breaking.
I like breaking rocks. It has the same calming effect of popping bubble wrap. Occasionally the calm is busted when the rock turns out to be a rock crab, which is a difficult monster to slay. It isn’t easy to get a screen shot of the monsters, but I will keep trying.
The crates and barrels you find in the mine are often filled with interesting loot. At this point I would have loved break every rock, kill the flying bug, and break all the crates and barrels, but I was running low on energy and time. I settled with breaking the two copper notes on each side of my avatar and finding the ladder down.
My main goal for this trip to the mine was not to gather loot, but to make it to level five. Making it to level five in the mine completes a quest and activates the elevator. I was getting pretty low on energy at this time.
At the top of the mine I retrieved my rod and ax, while leaving behind my sword and a cheery bomb which was dropped by the rock crab I killed. My loot for this run was two bits of sap, four slimes, one bug meat, three wood, 63 rocks, seven copper ore, one lump of coal, one topaz, one amethyst, and three geodes. I had to eat all but one of my field snacks to keep from running out of energy in the mine.

I headed back to the farm pretty well exhausted and went to bed. In the morning I got up tended the cat and watered the garden before returning to the mine to try to make 25 copper ores before time ran out on the challenge. Back in the mine I aggressively went for finding ladders and going down, to make it to level 10. On level ten I found a treasure chest and received a pair of leather boots, which gave me; +1 immunity and +1 defense.

To put on or take off clothes, shoes, hats, and rings: Click on the hamburger menu at the upper left hand side of the screen. You will remain on the first tab. Click on the item, this time the boots, then click on the appropriate square on either side of the avatar.
Now you can see I have on a shirt, pants, and the new boots.

When you are working on a quest, like this one for Clint, you can check your journal to see how far you have progressed. Above, you can see that I have found the copper I need. Leaving the mine, I headed to the blacksmith to talk to Clint. Rather than clicking on his counter when I went in, I clicked on him to trigger the dialogue, and receive my pay.

Seeing that my energy was too low to go back to the mine, and not having enough field snacks, I headed up to behind the Joja Mart to forage some rocks, wood, and fiber.

Next I headed over to the Community Center to explore the empty building.

I noticed what looked like a golden tablet in the lower left hand room, so I went to examine it.
You have got to wonder why there are two cords of wood in this room.
Well, that is really clear, isn’t it?

Not being able to make heads or tails of the message, I headed back to the farm. After Clint examined the ores, he had given them back to me, so I not only had enough or to craft my first furnace, I had enough to forge my first copper bar.

I loaded the copper ore and one lump of coal into the furnace and headed to bed, leaving the furnace glowing cherry red.

Later in the game a luck forecasts will be a trigger to send me into the mines, but on this day I was too low on food to be going down in the mine. I knew from previous lives that the mines just get harder the lower down you go. I earmarked this day for cleaning up my farm and gathering seeds to make field snacks.

Stepping outside I see that my first copper bar is ready, and I have mail.
Well, this is a different sort of letter from the other ones I have been getting.

Heading across my farm gathering seeds, I made my way down to the lake to find the wizard’s tower. Entering the tower triggered a cut scene with the wizard, where he gives me the ability to read the writing on the gold tablet.

After my visit to the wizard, I spent the rest of the day clearing up the farm. The more weeds and rocks I clear off, the more room there is for my trees to drop seeds, which I can make into field snacks. I need a lot of field snacks for entering the mine.

Breaking rocks on the farm and other places around the valley, all count toward mining experience.

My Inconvenient Live

I am a retired American Merchant Mariner.  l was living a nomadic lifestyle somewhere between being a nomad and an expat, before Covid19. I moved from country to country as my visas ran out. This blog covered my travels and the random thoughts about life, technology, travel, and the Oxford comma. Now I am stuck waiting for the pandemic to pass. During this time my posts will have very little to do with traveling, and more to do with keeping myself entertained during lockdown.
