SDV: A Blogger Escapes the Real World, Part Four

Posted on 09/22/202009/20/2020 by margrad80

Spoiler alert!
I am not even going to try to avoid spoilers. So be forewarned.

This walkthrough is for the iPad version of the game which has quite a few differences from the desktop version.

Stardew Valley is very flexible, so as you play the game your experiences will not be the same as mine. Once I am past the game basics, I will not be going step by step, but only recapping the action.

If you are looking just to get a particular question about the game answered. You can find just about every thing you need to know in the Wiki.

On day four of the game, I woke up in my lonely little cottage and turned on the TV, to watch Livin’ Off The Land. The program gives you quite a few tips for playing the game. This hint is about the spring onions, which I can forage past the river south of the farm.

With the spring onions in mind, I made my way across the farm to the south gathering windfall wood. I am still trying to accumulate 300 pieces of wood so that I can rebuild that broken bridge.

When your avatar moves behind most solid objects they become transparent like this tree. A few objects like the farm house do not.

I was disappointed when I arrived at the area south of the river, that there were no onions. Like many things in the game the onions are randomized. Sometimes there are a lot of them, but this was the first time I found none. I finished picking up windfall wood in the area and headed back across the farm to explore the area to the north.

This is the area you see when exiting the farm to the north.
I picked up a couple of wild leeks on my way along the path
By pressing and holding the Leek icon in the inventory tray I see that it has a lot of energy and some health if eaten.

At the end of this path, I found what is called the Mountain area. The building is the carpenter shop and home of Robin, her husband, son, and daughter. More about them later.

Today, I don’t take the time to talk to the homeless guy at his tent nor with Robin’s husband who is standing down near the cliff.
I headed over to look at the guy hammering on some rocks, gathering forage on the way.

Not being able to talk to the workman over the top of the rocks, I began to do some fishing in the Mountain Lake.

After catching two chubs and some green algae, I caught a 15 inch Bullhead.

Catching enough fish to fill my backpack I decided, rather than get to a point where I had to throw something away, I would eat the Wild Horseradish I had foraged. To eat something, you click on its icon in the inventory and then click on your avatar, which brings up the question below. This pause comes in very handy. There will be many times when you accidentally trigger the eating mode, and need to back out.

It didn’t give me much energy, but at least it left more room for fish.
After filling up my backpack again, it was time to head home.

Back on the farm, I worked in the dark to burn off my energy before going to bed. It seems like a real waste to go to bed with excess energy. While breaking rocks I found a Geode. I will have to remember to take it over to the blacksmith next time I am in town. When I go to bed I find that I have reached another milestone. This time in Foraging.

The crafting recipe of Field Snacks is pretty important at this point in the game. Tomorrow I will put it to use.

My Inconvenient Live

I am a retired American Merchant Mariner.  l was living a nomadic lifestyle somewhere between being a nomad and an expat, before Covid19. I moved from country to country as my visas ran out. This blog covered my travels and the random thoughts about life, technology, travel, and the Oxford comma. Now I am stuck waiting for the pandemic to pass. During this time my posts will have very little to do with traveling, and more to do with keeping myself entertained during lockdown.
