An Unscheduled Vacation From Blogging

Posted on 05/23/201905/22/2019 by margrad80

It all started with the rain. It has been a long time since I have lived anywhere, where the rain can continue day after day. I am used to an occasional day of rain, or even more often just a morning or afternoon of rain. So I really didn’t think to check the ten day forecast before becoming a hermit for a few days, to catch up on my blog.

By the time I was caught up, on all but one blog post and ready to venture out into the world again, it started to rain. It rained for days. For the first day or two, I just didn’t care to write, I just played iPad games and read, checking the weather from time to time.

Then I decided that it was time to finish that last post, since I was stuck at home. I logged on to WordPress and went to the My Site page. When I opened up the post, I got the screens below.

After clicking on the post I wanted to edit, I had this screen for a while
After I while, I got this message. This is still happening as of May 22, 2019, as you can see by the fact I was able to do the screenshots today.

I ran though all the things you think of at a time like that, but nothing worked. I decided that it must be an issue with the WordPress servers, and checked the next day, and the next, and the next. I googled to see if there were a thread about the issue running around the internet. Again nothing.

While I was trapped at home by the rain, was worried about running out of food. I was texting my friend Gina, and she recommended , that instead of ordering out I should check out, https://www.frisco.pl/, a local food delivery service. I checked out their website and actually wanted to try them out. I was pleased that the site has plenty of english, so I would know better what I was buying.

I was about ready to start my account, when I saw sun shining through the window over the stove. I got dressed and walked to Carrefour at the mall. It wasn’t long after I stowed my groceries, that I realized it was raining again.

I checked on WordPress and it was still have troubles (this was days before I figured out the workaround today.) I went back to playing games, because it I just couldn’t bring myself to writing on the novel I had neglected for so long.

Every time the weather broke for long enough, I headed out for a walk, even managing to get to the grocery store again. It was irritating that I couldn’t work on my blog. On sunday, I managed to get downtown to have lunch at a food truck with Gina.

One my way to lunch along the wet roads, I saw why you might want a smart car.

There were quite a few food trucks parked in front of the Palace of Culture, but it wasn’t hard to find the one selling Philly Cheesesteaks. Not long after I got there, Gina arrived and we ordered sandwiches. Normally I can’t eat Cheesesteaks because of the bell pepper, but the menu at the food truck had several sandwiches without the peppers. I ordered the Swiss Mushroom.

As soon as our orders were in I headed over to a tent set up to sell beer. I stood in line for a long time. The vendors were dealing with new kegs, so they were drawing off glass after glass of foam. I kept looking back over my shoulder to see where Gina was. I texted her to see if she wanted a beer; no. She had found us a table and was staking it out. Finally I headed back with my beer and camped out that the table while she went and picked up our sandwiches.

Yes, I ate half before taking the photo. Geesh, I was hungry!

Let’s get one thing clear, these sandwiches are nowhere near being Philly Cheesesteaks. That being said, if you offered me a sandwich from Pat’s King of Steaks or Geno’s Steaks in Philly, which are so famous, and one of these. I would take the Polish sandwich hands down. The cheese was real, not that cheese sauce stuff. The meat was first class, and don’t even get me started on the fresh mushrooms. Poland has mushrooms to die for.

After our meal, Gina and I walked it off. As we were walking and talking, Gina suddenly saw her tram and rushed off to catch it. I continued to walk home. A little while later I got the following message.

I can’t say how often that happened to me, especially at the Honolulu airport Bus 20.

On my way home I noticed the fountain at a distance above. I think it is the one behind the monument to the unknown soldier. Next time I am out sightseeing I will have to walk over there. There is a park I cut through often to get to one of the bridges over the train tracks to my neighborhood. I stopped to take a photo of a monument I had overlooked before.

At the intersection of Bonifraterska and Konwiktorska Streets, and in the Romuald Traugutt Park, the youth battalion and youth reconstruction brigades were killed, from September 1945 to November 1947, They had worked sacrificially for rubble removal and building a new route connecting the town with the Zoliborz. (rough translation)

Finally today (May 22, 2019), after having been off of blogging for ten days, I started poking around WordPress looking for a feedback and bug reporting area. Before finding that (I still don’t know where it is, if there is one.) I found a workaround. If you use WordPress and are having this problem click here for my workaround.

Maybe if I find out how to access the WordPress feedback, I can send them a link to my workaround post. Until then, if you are having this problem with your wordpress page it helps you continue with your blogging.

My Inconvenient Live

I am a retired American Merchant Mariner.  l was living a nomadic lifestyle somewhere between being a nomad and an expat, before Covid19. I moved from country to country as my visas ran out. This blog covered my travels and the random thoughts about life, technology, travel, and the Oxford comma. Now I am stuck waiting for the pandemic to pass. During this time my posts will have very little to do with traveling, and more to do with keeping myself entertained during lockdown.
